Final Friday Top Five!

Image
Final Friday Top Five Reusables! All pictures made on Canva I have been looking at a lot of reusable products, thanks to my podcast , so I figured I should rank them! I've been really enjoying taking a closer look at them. In the future I will be doing more pro/con lists here on the blog to further explore these awesome products! Without further waffle, here are my top five reusable products. 5. Gift Bags As per usual, I am breaking my own rules and starting with something not technically advertised as reusable. But surely I am not the only person who hoards gift bags and the fancy paper shopping bags with a mind to reuse them? I have a wine bag which is made from jute so if that's not reusable I don't know what is! And even if I don't actually hand the physical bag over, they are a great way to transport gifts at the very least.  I genuinely think I have never bought a gift bag in my life.  4. Reusable Baking Sheets: Pros VS Cons

Image
Made using Canva Now that I have a regular segment in my podcast called Reusable Corner, I thought I would expand upon what is discussed there. So today we are looking at the pros and cons of reusable baking sheets. If you want to listen to the original discussion, it is on the second episode: Gulp It Down! Ever the optimist, I will start with a pro. They are reusable and versatile. I will cook anything and everything on my baking sheets. Sweet, savoury, breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack - you name it, I will cook it on there. I find they are great for stopping things sticking to the tray or, vice versa, the tray sticking to your dinner! There is nothing worse than biting down onto a slice of pizza with a bit of whatever anti-stick stuff your tray is coated in stuck onto the bottom. (Ok, so there are loads of worse things but in that moment, it tops it!) These baking sheets prevent that, so your dinner arrives in one piece and without extras. With my hit and

Mermaid Kitchen: Cannelloni

Image
It's been a while since we ventured into the kitchen. Naturally, I have been baking and making (anyone see the mammoth bake or green icing on my personal insta?). But they were all recipes I have thrown at you before. However, with this lockdown and all the panic buying, a few weeks ago I found that the only pasta Morrisons had was cannelloni. We needed something and have since been experimenting with tubular pasta. My first attempt, not pictured, was made with philly (ahem, saver's soft cheese) rather than ricotta because there was none in stock. It worked well enough but was definitely way too sweet. We made a couple more mistakes too; over reduced the tomato sauce, not enough tubes, and did not chop the spinach. That last one meant we got these massive long slugs of spinach followed by a mouthful of just philly. They did not mix well together. I didn't mind the mouthfuls of philly, the slugs were a little off putting, but my partner is not a big fan of soft

Marine Creature of the Month Famous Fish May '20

Marine Creature of the Month Made using Canva Common Bottlenose Dolphin Our famous fish this month won by a landslide - sorry Squiddy. So let's dive a little deeper and take a look at Flipper! Kingdom: Animalia Class: Mammalia Conservation Status: Least Concern (LE) Picture from Pinterest WHAT IS FLIPPER? Flipper is a dolphin. He is the most dolphin-y dolphin you can get. And I think that is largely down to having a television presence since the sixties! All dolphins are mammals, meaning they breath air and give birth to live pups - and bottlenoses are no exception. Despite having a nose-like snout, they have a blow hole on the top of their head, which is used for breathing. Common bottlenose dolphins are grey and bear all the body features we expect from dolphins. Flippers, check. Dorsal fin, check. Adorable face, double check. They grow between 2 and 4m (6.6 and 13.1ft) and can weigh as much as 650kg (1,340lbs)! For some context,
