Mermaid Kitchen: Brownies

Image
Hello everyone! Welcome to one of my new shiny regular segments: Mermaid Kitchen. I love to bake, always have. Admittedly, I do it with varying degrees of success, especially in my old kitchen with bad counter heights and an oven which only cooked on one side! But since living with my partner, I have a nice big counter to prepare on and a decent oven so my baking mojo is alive and well. As part of my 2019 goals, I want to make more. Make more food from scratch. Make more crafty things. Make more beauty products. This is all part of my way of trying to reduce my plastic impact on the environment. So I thought it'd be prudent to share incase it inspires anything for you guys or (better yet) you have any tips for me to improve what I'm doing, or any ideas you'd like me to guinea pig for you. Changes are easier when you do it together. One of the reasons why I want to bake more is, well, because I like cake. I like to have something sweet in my lunchbox, pudding is a m...

In My Lunchbox...

I have found one of the hardest places to reduce my plastic is my lunchbox. I typically like to have a sandwich type thing, a couple bits of fruit, and then something sweet and sugary to see me through til home time. Sandwich wraps   I do sometimes mix things up a bit and have hummus with bread. Currently, I am buying the hummus pots, but my mum has a recipe for hummus which I am meaning to borrow. I think I am going to struggle making it without a food processor, but if it's something I am going to do often then it may be worth investing in one...

Happy Hallowe'en!! Today's blog is going to be short, sweet and full of pictures - I have worn myself out with all my Hallowe'en prep. I've had some great fun today, including an interlude at my mum's house to decorate spooky gingerbreadmen with my favourite shark experts. I've been melting chocolate, making spooky chocs with jelly surprises, sewing my plastic pollution outfit, pumpkin carving... all things Hallowe'eny! It's been almost plastic free, the chocolate came wrapped in plastic and the sweets had some plastic packaging. But all things considered, that is still drastically less than if I'd have just bought some Haribo mini bags. And mine is now in spooky shapes. I have definitely learned from my experience and plan to use it next year. It's mostly don't leave it all until the day before , as I ran out of time to do the gingerbread house - but hey! Christmas is coming. Anyway, I am done rambling. Here is a photo journey of ...
