Final Friday Top Five: Scores

Image
Final Friday Top Five Film Scores 5. Sharknado series: (The Ballad of) Sharknado by Quint It is no secret that despite being a shark advocate, I love a good Creature Feature B-Movie. The Sharknado series ticks all my boxes: bad acting, ridiculous premise, cheap CGI, and an escalation of silliness you couldn't predict in a million years. Plus, all the cameos! And the music does not disappoint. It enhances the aesthetic and completes the tone to the film. It's fun and everything it needs to be. 4. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea: Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea - Movie Version by Joe Hisashi You get the Noah Cyrus and Bonus Jonas version, rather than original Japanese. In my books, Joe Hisashi can do no wrong. The man knows his way around an orchestra. I am a fan. (I mean, I have the score to Spirited Away tattooed on my arm.) I can (and regularly do) listen to his music for hours on end. His scores are the perfect accompaniment to Hayao Miyazaki's b

Earth Day 2020

Image
Happy Earth Day! This is my third year celebrating Earth Day and this year marks the 50th anniversary . As we are still on lockdown and to keep you lovely people safe, this year we have done litter picks in isolation. I want say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and thank you for all the great pictures. Hopefully, next year we will be able to celebrate together. For now, enjoy the pictures. TEAM JET WASHERS Thank you Carole, Tori, Arthur, and Jet Wash WiggleBum. TEAM HOLLAND Thank you Sue. TEAM MOLOCK Weirdest find: Definitely the pants and jacket which were in the river. Honestly thought I was about to discover a dead body! I love doing the Earth Day litter picks, despite it being somewhat bittersweet. It's a great opportunity to come together and do some good for the environment, but it's sad that we have to do it in the first place. Still, it was good fun and the perfect excuse to

Making the Most of Outdoor Time

There is no denying it. The world is weird right now. Society as we know it has ground to halt except for essential workers - highlighting what many people have been saying for years. It's the retail/service workers who make the world go round. Hopefully, there'll be a global increase in respect for them after the pandemic. But this is not a ranty post about that. It's about Spring. I have found it so reassuring that while "the world" has been crumbling, the world has actually kept spinning and doing what it does. As I write this, our garden is delightfully over grown and we've had our first "We should probably mow the lawn" conversation of 2020. Our mint plants are sprouting up, begging to be turned into ice cream . Daisies are pushing their way through the grass. Hell, even our half dead Christmas tree from three Christmases ago is finally showing some signs of life. The laundry is hanging outside and I have dug out the wobbliest tab

Marine Creature of the Month April '20

Marine Creature of the Month Famous Fish: Sykes Picture from Pinterest Puffer Fish   You have spoken! Thank you all for voting, your winner is Sykes from A Sharks Tale , the puffer fish. If anyone is home schooling at the moment, here is your next biology lesson sorted! Kingdom: Animalia Class: Actinopterygii Conservation Status: Not Extinct (NE) WHAT IS SYKES? Sykes is a caricature of Martin Scorsese in fish format, otherwise known as a puffer fish. They belong to the Tetraodontidae family and are related to several similar species of fish, such as globefish, swellfish, and (my favourite) sugar toads. Most species of puffer are toxic and are poisonous if consumed. They are famous for this, puffer fish poison has been the murder weapon in many TV shows. It is also a method of murder in the Sims 4 , if that's the way you like to play life simulators! Their scientific name, however, is for their teeth rather than their toxic qualities. They have four la

Mermaid Craft: Bunting

'Tis the season for distraction, falalalalalalala. I am terrible for hoarding cards: birthday, Christmas, thank you - whatever the occasion, I will hoard it. I am loathe to throw them away (read: recycle them) because someone has gone to the effort of sending it to me and they are so often very pretty. So what can I do with them? Other than just hide them in various places to find in a couple years time and wonder how they got there. Someone actually offered me the solution ages ago. I shared a post about Christmas crafts in 2018 to Facebook and asked if anyone had any other Christmas crafts. The answer: make bunting out of cards. So, thank you Sharon Garforth! This was lovely and easy to do, therefore will be repeated for years to come. I am even tempted to make some out of my birthday cards too, if I ever find the stash from previous years. I know they are somewhere! Bunting! WHAT YOU WILL NEED Old cards Scissors Hole punch Pen Ruler Pencil String
