Final Friday Top Five: Scores

Final Friday Top Five Film Scores 5. Sharknado series: (The Ballad of) Sharknado by Quint It is no secret that despite being a shark advocate, I love a good Creature Feature B-Movie. The Sharknado series ticks all my boxes: bad acting, ridiculous premise, cheap CGI, and an escalation of silliness you couldn't predict in a million years. Plus, all the cameos! And the music does not disappoint. It enhances the aesthetic and completes the tone to the film. It's fun and everything it needs to be. 4. Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea: Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea - Movie Version by Joe Hisashi You get the Noah Cyrus and Bonus Jonas version, rather than original Japanese. In my books, Joe Hisashi can do no wrong. The man knows his way around an orchestra. I am a fan. (I mean, I have the score to Spirited Away tattooed on my arm.) I can (and regularly do) listen to his music for hours on end. His scores are the perfect accompaniment to Hayao Miyazaki's b...

Final Friday Top Five! Shark B-Movies 5. Sharktopus Vs Pteracuda (2014) Photo from Wikipedia First of all, this film stars Robert Carradine , aka Lizzie McGuire 's dad. So, immediately, this film was in my good books. I grew up watching the Disney Channel. I have also watched the original Sharktopus and thought this was a fun direction to take the franchise in. It was silly, it was stupid; but it was everything I was expecting it to be, plus Lizzie McGuire's dad.  4. Frenzy (2018) Photo from IMDb This film was diabolically dumb. Literally, every choice these characters make is dumb. But it was fun dumb. I enjoyed calling all the "twists" and we even got one wrong! As the film is about adventure-shy Lindsey finding her inner badass, I felt like I could almost relate to her. But then she'd do something very dumb and that feeling would go. Still, it had a glorious back drop and more than one shark. Though, I have to ask. Does...

Final Friday Top Five: Sea Movies

Image
In an attempt to get organised, I have decided to introduce a new feature blog - everybody's favourite, a Top 5! So on the last Friday of every month, I will be doing aquatic themed Top 5s, starting with Top 5 Sea Movies. This is marrying two of my loves, really. I did Film and Television Studies at university, and I like to pay hommage to that every now and then. So, no more waffle and onto the list! Top 5 Sea Movies! 5: Help! I'm a Fish (2000) Photo from IMDb.com As a guppy, I used to surf the music channels a lot. I stumbled across the bop Help! I'm a Fish by Little Trees and a little bit fell in love it with. I am a sucker for a catchy tune. Once I realised it was from a film, I then had to watch it. Eventually, it came round to Sky and I was able to record it. I. Loved. It. It's a nonsense film where some kids drink a potion and become fish. They lose the antidote potion and go on an adventure to find it. Someone else finds it, an evil fish voi...
