  • The megalodon was probably the largest predator to have ever lived - we haven't found one bigger yet. It is larger than the whale shark.
  • Their teeth were over twice the size of great white's teeth.
  • Recent discoveries of megalodon nurseries have led scientists to believe they gave birth in shallow waters.

  • Its name, Sarcosuchus, means fleshy crocodile.
  • It was twelve feet longer than modern saltwater crocodile.
  • Their home became the Sahara desert.

  • It is postulated that they laid their eggs upon land like the sea turtle.
  • Their teeth were designed to catch prey, not chew. They swallowed their prey whole.
  • Their long necks were supported by 40 vertebrae.

  • The hybodus shark species survived on the planet ten times longer than the average shark does.
  • They had tougher cartilage skeletons than modern sharks, it was more like bone.
  • Their reproductive system was the precursor to those of modern sharks.

  • Dunkleosteus were longer than London buses, making it probably one of the largest fish to have existed.
  • They were armoured fish and predatory.
  • Their bite force is estimated to be strong than that of a moder crocodile's.

  • This fearsome waiter was named in honour of Herman Melville who wrote Moby Dick.
  • It is believed they were as fast blue whales.
  • Their 50ft length is extrapolated from their 10ft skulls.
