Advent Calendar Day 20
We’re on the home stretch now! Santa is getting so close I can smell his beard.
Edward Scissorhands will always be a magical film for me. Johnny Depp may be a bit of a controversial topic right now, but this film just needs to exist outside of that. And this particular scene captures the essence of the story so perfectly. Danny Elfman’s ethereal score, the sparkly fantastical nature, with a manic goth in the background - all to be brought crashing down by people’s ignorant fear of anything out of the ordinary. On its surface this is a whimsical film about an old, mad inventor’s leftover experiment who makes snow, but it just goes so much deeper than that. The commentary on suburban life, twisted narratives, and peer pressure are heart breaking.
Before I go full film nerd, I will just leave the first snow scene here.
